We know that we need to end the ridiculous redistricting that has been done. That is why the Democrats that I know and work with are always working on putting up candidates for every office from dog catcher to governor in states. In Georgia, for example, we work with several organizations like Contest Every Race and Emily's List to recruit candidates to fill every possible spot that is open for an election. Gradually, we are getting more and more candidates to run for local, district, and state seats. Just getting people to run is a task in itself. It takes money, time, stamina, and a hardy constitution because you will be ridiculed, jeered, and threatened by some scary red necks. That is what you need to do to elect Dem DAs, local judges, and get redistricting changed. Georgia is not the only state that knows what needs to be done. We know the assignment.

Fixing the Supreme Court is a more daunting task, but again, one we know that we desperately need to fix. I don't know if you heard this or not, but President Biden has presented a plan for reforming the Supreme Court. Presenting a plan does not, of course, mean that the problem is fixed but proposing a plan is the first step toward getting the Supreme Court travesty taken care of. Justice Thomas has, in the last few days been referred to the Justice Department for the corrupt behavior he has displayed in taking extravagant gifts from conservative donors who then may have business before the court. Again, not guaranteed to fix the court, but another step toward correcting what's wrong. We also know that we have to have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and a majority in the House of Representatives to get things done in the Supreme Court. New rules like age limits, term limits, etc. have been suggested. A majority in the Senate and a Harris/Walz win means that federal judgeships will be appointed easily by Democrats and that when an opening occurs on the SCOTUS, even in the last 10 months or 4 weeks before the next election, that a new justice will be approved.

No this election is not the be-all-end-all, but if this election is NOT won, it. pretty much won't be in our hands any more to do anything. EVERY election is important and I think that 2016 taught so many of us that lesson. But we continue to be out here doing what we can do to make sure we do what we need to do.
