Yeah, well, I came across this blessed envelope of yours, Debt Incorporated’s credit card company, that is. I could not resist the opportunity to take advantage of the free postage. Thank you for the opportunity to exercise my First Amendment right to free speech on your tab!
I take this opportunity to express my displeasure at the mere principle of the credit card and my ensuing dismay at your indiscriminate and relentless pursuit of the general public’s trust. While you portray your credit card’s powers as the key to a happier life, you’re lobbying hard behind the scenes to make laws restricting people’s bankruptcy rights, as you encourage people to overindulge themselves. Your dirty fun money with vicious interest rates provide a service that eventually hardships and even bankrupts individuals and, even sadder, families.
The American public’s motto has become “Consume, consume, consume.” It is sad and disheartening that the citizenry is in such a needy state. The credit card industry is not helping. “People are not forced to apply for credit,” the credit industry rebukes. That is the gravest rape propagated; people are easily seduced by the prospect of material gain. The credit industry relies on this very weakness for its survival; the frailty of collective will against material seduction is prominent. While it is true that occasional emergencies arise which require immediate cash, what is even truer is that this egocentric culture propagates immediate needless consumerism and self-gratification….so credit companies use magazine ads and TV commercials to offer visual illusions of paradise in America’s living rooms every night, promising care-free escape or rescue from it all. But beware: the seemingly benevolent helping right hand extended by the money-lenders is followed by a pocket-picking left. The industry is even trying to financially penalize those who pay their bills ON TIME. And more and more people are lured in as the credit card industry lowers its standards by accepting financially inadequate applications for credit. This creates a huge flock of “accounts” that are really just human economic slavery. It stems from what has become your sad legacy: making money by tapping into human greed. Material Possession reigns supreme over all.
Our culture, by and large, lacks genuine spiritual content. Thanks for the part you all played in it. The rest is all downhill from here.
