Yeah...reached the point where the discussion turned sour.
I think it's an issue when people try to generalize and lump people all in together. Saying "All Christians are X" is just not right. I think the idea is to respect Christians and their beliefs and to understand that people aren't perfect. Respect people and what they believe period.
Sure, argue and reserve the right to disagree...that's American...and I think healthy. I think the bickering and fighting can bring us to some sort of understanding...not change people's minds but at least help us to better understand why we believe what we believe.
Some arguments though only push us further apart and I think that's where this went. To wish stuff on someone's children is "dishonest"...I say that because it's one of those ploys that are designed specifically to bring the discussion to a halt...and it did.
We end up going in a different direction and debating a different topic and people end up disgusted and walk away. Cheap and dishonest. It's the same as hijacking a discussion about abusing Iraqi prisoners with abortion. Dishonest. You go from discussion to labeling a whole group of people with whatever it is you decide to hang on them...then people that might fit into that group be it Christians or Liberals end up pissed off because you just labeled them all...and the shit hits the fan.
We can't have a decent discussion if people resort to these kind of cheap tactics.
Oh well...I'm leaving the office to meet some potential clients...
God bless Pat and Kevin G and their children. Let's not let our politics turn us against one another.
Peace,
Reg
