Well, yes, I was aware that the Bush environmental history was not exactly stirling, and I can't comment on the Sierra Club's all out assault, but they I find them typically a little oversensitive.  The things that always worried me , more than anything were the plans for oil drilling in Alaska (I'm not sure this is going to go through though, it was talked about around last election), and the more recent foresting plans for Tongass (which, I now understand is a very small percentage of the forest, but still gave me cause for concern, if it is only to be a first step in further logging). 

My understanding is that  Republicans in past have typically catered to corporate interests and have "looked the other way", whenever convenient, to allow certain laxaties to occur where what is dumped into the water and air are concerned...especially if such legislation helps fill the coffers of rich industrialists.
