No mention of the positive impact Sadaam's capture will have.
Funny, I remember quite a few people saying "hooray!", when that nasty rat was plucked from his hole. Any joy was merely tempered by the suspicion that it might not improve our rather lousy situation by any large amount, and that the objects of our concern; namely our troops, our economy, and yes, our environment would still be substantially at risk. Does that seem treasonous or delusional to you?
No mention of the fact that we have had no terrorist attacks on US soil since 911.
Or prior, for that matter. (Of course, Iraq being essentially the 51st state of the Union at the moment. and the rather inescapable preponderance of mayhem over there could cause one to question even that.)
No solutions to the terrorists threats just endless critcisms of the war.
I dunno, guys. Everyone seems to agree that Al Qaeda (and some citizens of Saudi Arabia) were responsible for 9/11. When we had them on the run, instead of swarming the goal line and cleaning up that particular mess, we diverted massive resources away from them and onto Hussein, freeing them to regroup and plot more havoc. We also stretched our resources so thinly that we exposed ourself to the risk that some other rogue nation might exploit the opportunity of our international isolation and military overstretch to join the nuclear club. (L'il Kim Jong Il, anyone? A coup in Pakistan?) And we seem to have inspired a whole new generation of suicide bombers, terrorists, and would-be martyrs. Anyone who truly wishes America well would have to agree that that was poor judgement, at best.
Just that we have that worthless Homeland Security. Just more allegations and name calling. Divert and smear, divert and smear.
Oh, jeeze. From whence such wounded bitterness? You control the White House, Congress, the military, you'll probably get to pick a Supreme Court justice, and every agency from HUD to EPA to Justice is headed and probably mostly staffed by loyalists to your cause. You're on top of the world, guys. Why not hug a tree and sing kumbaya with us? Happy New Year, and congratulate me on my first little job of the year--a very charming and warm and bittersweet film called "Round The Bend", starring Michael Caine, Chris Walken, and Josh Lucas. By the fellow that wrote "In The Bedroom", a man named Jordan Roberts.
love,
David
