"If a moderate soaking of the rich is needed to get health insurance for 10 million children, or provide adequate nursing home staffing, or adequate whatever, so be it"
Nice sentiment Peter. Very Robin Hoodish of you. Take money from those that earned it and give it to those that didn't. That's straight out of the first chapter of the Income Redistribution 101 textbook.
To begin with, I'm more concerned about a significant soaking of me and I'm not rich by a long shot, but you consider me to be greedy for wanting to keep more of the money I worked hard for and EARNED. I thiink yours is the strange thought process here.
First of all, tell me what people making minimum wage are doing having kids in the first place (such as in Dale's example)? Secondly, tell me why it's my responsibilty to finance their irresponsibility and thirdly, tell me why this ever even became an issue since the left didn't want ANY tax cut in the first place?
Here's an excerpt from something a friend wrote earlier this year. Explain to me why she is wrong.
I'm going to owe something like $8,000 this year. I'm self-employed so I pay it all at once at tax time. Once again, I'll have the bitter experience of writing out a check for over a fourth of my income that I earned by working at two jobs while putting myself through college and not producing children I can't support, while looking out the window to the house across the street, where lives a guy who hasn't had a job in three years because he's a lazy drug abusing alcoholic, but who receives government assistance for himself and his children, who don't even live with him (yes, this is an actual person).
It makes me sick.
