Reg,

"One thing I have to say before I get into the film stuff is I no longer have the patience to sit through a film I have no interest in or that I don't like."

There seems to be a difference in some peoples minds between 'films' and 'movies'...In fact, you demonstrate it in your second paragraph. But that may just be the way my thinker thinks. Unless they're a documentary, they're the same thing...in my mind...

"Hey, there is a really nice hammock in my yard and in the summer I'd rather be in that sucker with a book than watching things explode in a movie theatre."

Words to live by. Especially in a place where there are actually seasons and not perpetual summer or winter.

"We did see the latest Indiana Jones film and for the most part I thought it was ok but the whole midsection is a long car chase that is boring as all hell and highlights the fact that the film is designed to be more of an amusement park ride than anything else. "

It 'went off the rails' for me when Indy survived the atomic blast in a lead lined fridge - as far as my son goes (my litmus test) - he was far more shocked by the end of Pirates of the Caribbean 2 when Depp jumped into the monsters mouth(I'll never forget the look on his face)...you're right, Reg - both were pretty much like an amusement ride.

"The last film that really bothered me was Man of the Year."

Never heard of it.

I watched 'Hearts of Darkness' at the end of it Coppolla talked about 'Youth without Youth'.d

Never heard of it, either.

"This leads to my last point which is that pretty much I watch old films at home most of the time because I know I'm going to get something I enjoy."

Like music or tv shows, there's just sooo much out there - and there's so many films (as a guy who gets paid as an associate director) I haven't seen. I haven't seen Citizen Kane (pointedly), I saw Saving Private Ryan about 3 years ago for the first time.

Westerns?

I like Buster Keaton. I have too many singing westerns (oh he oh hi oh ho) stuck in my head. Roy Rogers and all that - I like your marriage of old westerns and our Presdicament, Reg.

Have you seen Kurosawa's 'Dreams'?

"The snow is warm, the ice is hot..."

I like anything Hitchcock's done (I haven't seen them all)

I'm judging by the tone of your message, Reg - that you have netflix or some equivalent...

I liked Miami Blues, I don't know if 'like' is the right word - but I appreciated 'Henry - Portrait of a Serial Killer' - it's unredeeming(word?) - but that's the point, I suppose.

I know this guy at work who will probably agree with you on each and every western pick.

There's a lot of movies I haven't seen - I don't understand how people score movies - it's huge - I watched a 'film' Miles Davis scored (on the escalator - Louis Malle - (don't know much of his stuff, either) - and he (I should say they)just played it - one take only - to the images on the screen...

Amazing, seems to be the best word...

What are some films you're embarassed to like? I LOVE Predator. Do you think it's to blame for the difference between films and movies?
