I doubt seriously that California will burn - the only people you see agitating for clemency are the usual anti death penalty suspects. There is no outpouring of concern, rage or protest in the black community. When the anti death penalty folks talk about Williams legacy, it's not his children's books or his anti gang work. Tookie Williams legacy is the gang violence that makes life hell for the average black family in the 'hood.
I too, am a card carrying ACLU Liberal - but you know, in this case I don't care if he lives or dies. He has been convicted on solid evidence of five cold blooded murders. There is no doubt, no bad lawyers, no screwed up evidence, no extenuating circumstance of any kind - not even an apology or expression of remorse. And that's just what he was convicted for - that's not counting what he didn't get caught at - that's not counting the drug deals, drive by shootings, murders, and spreading his gang across the country, and all the history of violence that entails.
He dies - fine - let's get on with fixing the mess he left.
