Yeah, I took no offense from your response, I just assumed your message to me was you can't use any sort of normal standards to gauge things these days which I did not think was wrong. I mean, we truly are not in a normal place. We are going through a rather large challenge to how our country is governed and Trump and his minions are essentially trying to open every wound and expose every weakness of a Democracy.
On Biden, so I don't have any major issues with Biden with the exception of his oversight of the war in Ukraine which does very much appear to be a proxy war so we can remove Putin and I believe Biden has said that the ultimate goal is regime change in Russia. That I find a massive risk and unwise. It likely extends the war, causes more perilous dangers, and could build more support in Russia for Putin. Not to mention the toll it is taking on the Ukrainian people and whatever will be left of that country...which already is now a major rebuilding project.
I agree, domestically Biden has done a good job, he got the infrastructure deal through, he is negotiating down prescription drug prices, he has overseen huge job growth, he has worked hard on inflation and made progress, he has done well with working with the Republicans to avoid them doing insane things...in other words, he has helped the people of this country far more than Trump ever did. Funny thing for Trump is, the major accomplishment he oversaw was Operation Warp Speed to rapidly provide a Covid vaccine and he does not want to promote that because he has so many anti-vaxxers that support him.
On the age thing, it does not matter, I agree, if you are in good shape for your age. Biden is quite active for an 80 year old and seems to get regular exorcise and stays fit. He seems fine right now but obviously pushing into his mid 80s, who knows. It's not optimal and you obviously have to consider it.
Yeah, Trump is a fat, fast food gobbling, blob, that looks like he is going downhill fast. If I had to bet on one to be more healthy than the other, I'd take Biden. Not to mention Trump obviously sounds mentally unstable and says crazy stuff daily. Not only is he charged with 91 felonies, been found liable for sexual assault, but he seems mentally unfit to hold office. So, health wise, yeah, Biden all the way.
Biden did deal with the age question in the 2020 race and what he said was he was just going to do one term. That is almost never mentioned now. I am going to be honest here and say that I would not be shocked if the plan was to run Biden through the primary season (since the Democrats claim there is no primary this time for them) and suddenly have Biden step away when he has gathered all the delegates he needs, and hand them over to Harris. This way she would not have to go through running through primary season...a huge benefit to her. There has been a large uptick of people telling the media that Harris is ready to take the job...including Kamala herself. It almost seems like they are prepping us to have her step in late in primary season. That would save her from running all through the primary process but she would still have to run in the general.
Let me clarify why I call Biden a weak candidate, it is not to run him down, not at all. His favorability numbers are basically the same as Trump. About 70% of voters dislike both of them. It is awful. This is downright amazing considering how much Biden has managed to do for the working people and elderly in this country but you are probably correct, the Democrats do an absolutely shit job of promoting that. Also, the Republicans have done a stunningly wonderful job of promoting that Biden is some sort of criminal without providing any evidence of a crime. Pat Brown was on here saying he thinks Joe Biden is despicable without Biden even being charged with jaywalking.
It's laughable really, Trump has been on a crime spree for decades, he is a rotten human being, is openly only for himself, and Pat wants to tell me Biden is horrible when there is zero evidence he has done anything...seriously. If the Republicans had anything, anything at all, if Biden farted at dinner, they would be showing it to us over and over and over again. When they are asked to show any kind of evidence, NOTHING, ZERO, NADA. Even fellow Republicans are telling them to put up or shut up.
If Biden had done just a tiny iota of the stuff Trump has done, Republicans would be calling him more evil than Hitler and Satan combined. He would be seen as the worst human being to have ever walked the earth...but with Trump...well...they say nothing at all and hold him up as Christlike. That's not an exaggeration Marge Greene compared him to Jesus. Insane.
I mean, we can't go around Biden having an extremely low favorability number and what that means is, voters are shopping for a candidate. In the polling Biden has lost support from Democratic voters. That's worrying people. In all honesty, Biden should not be in a close call race with a guy that has been charged with 91 felonies and has been found liable for sexual assault. It should not even be close. And again, this is not just because Trump has his little army of MAGA loons...there are Democrats that don't like Biden as well. So, due to these factors, we have to consider him a weak candidate...a stronger candidate, one with better favorability numbers would annihilate Trump in the polling. Trump is a weak candidate, the weakest in fact, so this is why Democrats should prefer to face him in the general election.
On RFK Jr., the first thing is he not anti-vax, I am well aware that is how he has been portrayed but he openly said over and over, including under oath, he is not against vaccines, he takes them, his family takes them, this is not anti-vax. That has been pushed so hard by the media and Democrats because it is vitally important to them that people believe it. He is for protecting children, medical freedom, and serious accountability for vaccine manufacturers...but he is not against vaccines. So, I would dismiss that aspect of the criticism against him. His comments on all of that are just one small aspect of the man and throws into the trash the other 98% of the man. That is what I see as truly nuts.
Democrats did not have to declare war on Bobby Kennedy. They did that because they fear Biden being a weak candidate. They want no challenge to him whatsoever. Fine but honestly, that is not how our system is supposed to work. It looks bad, when you've got an insane person, in Trump, saying the election against him was rigged, and then the DNC wants to rig their own primaries. They rigged their primary so they could have Hillary be their candidate in 2016, they are rigging this one for Biden. I've watched and read a lot about RFK Jr. and honestly, he seems the right guy for the job to me. I do not think his work as a lawyer should be held against him. It does not matter because the party has done nothing but portray him as a nut and a horrible person, so you can't become the nominee if the party absolutely is doing everything they can to destroy you. So, I harbor not a shred of hope that he will be president...ever.
Yes, Biden is the incumbent, so he decides if he is going to run for a second term. The Democrats should be happy with him, as mentioned he has done a good job with domestic policy, so I understand backing him.
What I think the Democrats should have done is just embrace Biden and Kennedy and say "Hey, look we have the best candidates!" because they do. Yes, the entire Republican field stinks. I agree Nikki Haley looks like the best of them, and she is awful. Plus none of them can cut into Trump's massive lead so to become the nominee, they need Trump to go down to his legal problems...while only Christie points out his legal problems.
I don't care what people say about Biden and the Democrats, this Republican primary is the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life watching politics. Utterly disastrous to their party. Every Republican running against Trump has been given a massive gift, 91 felony charges, a RICO conspiracy, found liable for sexual assault, and outside of Christie, they barely mention it. Hilarious! If Trump had any of this, any tiny bit of it, on any of his Republican opponents...he'd say something about it every day on Truth Social. He would assault them with it mercilessly. You can't gain ground on him in the primary if you won't criticize him. I guess they all are relying on Christie to do the dirty work but because Christie is alone, that just makes it look like he is the one that is lying. They need to be a chorus of voices pointing out Trump is bad for their party and bad for the country. They all want his MAGA voters though so...won't do it. So, they will all lose together.
