Reg, I'm with you through the first 5 paragraphs of your first post (sorry for the outraged tone of my response, but mainstream/faux spews talking points get me twitchy)
Your contention that Biden is a weak candidate IMHO is flat out wrong. He is great on the stump, has gotten a lot accomplished in his first term and is still pushing against the republican intransigence. Kamala is not a great campaigner, but the vice president really never factors into these things, with the exception of Sara Palin who made herself the center of attention and tanked McCain in the process. What the Dems need to do is fully embrace Bidens accomplishments and push the narrative of more to come. I'm looking for this as the campaign ramps up - we still are over a year out.
RFK Jr.. I will admit my own prejudice that any anti-vaxxer is a knee-jerk HELL NO from me - that's just my take and i will not apologize for it. I have watched/listened to interviews of the man and I find them rambling at best and incoherent at worst. Hell, the man contradicted himself in a single NPR interview and when called on it, abruptly changed the subject and proceeded to filibuster until the host backed down. Add to that most of his funding is from republican leaning PACs who are clearly pushing him as a dark horse candidate to weaken Biden. (BTW, why do Boston democrats deify the Kennedys? I worked in Boston for about 6 months on the big dig and never could figure it out.)
Your statement that the Democrats are "circling the wagons around Biden" like they did with Clinton omits one salient point. Biden is the Incumbent. Hillary was running in an open field and I was outraged about the Dems and Wasserman-Schultz's "Coronation" behavior at the time. But again, Biden is the incumbent with the option for another term. It is his decision to take or leave, and since he has taken it, tradition and decorum dictates he be allowed to run unchallenged.
AGE: Biden is 80; Trump is 77. Really?? Biden is old?? Three years is old?? That argument belongs in the trash can with trump's diapers. Biden exercises regularly, trump does not. Biden eats a balanced diet, trump does not. Biden keeps relatively cool in the face of stress or stupid reporters, trump is a raging hissy fit on wheels. Who do you think is due for a coronary first? I'd say the Ketchup is on the wall for this one.
Republican Silence: Yeah, they are afraid of him and his flying monkeys. Considering his history of doxing and siccing his minions on perceived slights, who wouldn't be? The bigger question is why has this behavior been normalized? Have we devolved into petulant 5 year old's screaming MINE!! at the drop of a hat? Is this rational behavior? The Republicans have proven themselves to be beta cucks in the face of trumps bullying tactics and they will suffer from it for a long time. There are 4 judges that could put a damper on this behavior, but with the whole kid gloves/former president thing, I'm not holding my breath.
The Republican field: Sucks. The only one with any cohesive/viable platform is Niki Haley, and the Republicans are not going to nominate a woman. They are too misogynistic to go any other way. For the foreseeable future its trump v Biden. If trump gets convicted, I'm looking for a brokered convention. There will be a substantial minority wanting to throw trump overboard to save the party, but i have my doubts they will pull it off. This may weaken the party, but I still think it will be a tight race.
Everything is Broken: Yes, it is. After trump; Covid and mounting climate issues I think we are all suffering from mild PTSD. We're just going to have to muddle through and work it out of our system over time. Keep a good thought and be kind to your fellow man in the meantime.
