Kent,
First, I never said there was nothing in the constitution to make me feel safe in my community. What I said was there was nothing there to provide me with the confidence of these types of freedom. What I mean is that politions can write whatever they want. The words mean nothing without putting them into practice. Policies and rules mean nothing if not implemented and inforced. Priveledges mean nothing if not monitored or rationed. If this is not done you have chaos. That is why we have Law Enforcement. This is because we live in an endereducated society that tries to abuse priveldges and avoid policies. However most of this monitoring is not that of policies and priveledges of the constitution but rather stae and local laws. It is the actions and abilities that provide the freedoms not the the words themselves
Second, I actually do feel very safe within my community, that was the entire point of my paragraph. What I am trying to convey is that the first thing people do when they have a problem is dial 911(hence what you said One of the major problems with this country right now is that there are too many people who want someone else to do their job of protecting their own family.) While the constitution does provide these liberties to us in theory, what would the response be in your community if you were to do a poll?
Something like this?
Q: Excuse me, what has your community done to make you feel safer?
A: Well they have made me aware the rights provided to me in ammendments 2-5 and also 8. This knowledge makes me feel much safer now that I know what the government has done for me to ensure that I have the ability to protect myself.
NO, being that we live in an under-educated society, the majority of people would make comments in reference to greater awareness of police departments, increased lights, community organizations, or some other social aspect. It is what is done in the reality of the majority not the theory of the educated few. The responses would be based on the actions and implimentation of the policies not the policies themselves.
Personally, I have the absolute ability and means to protect myself and those around me and the last thing I need is for everyone running around my community carrying firearms. Even though I carry mine, a good percentage of the people that also carry I would venture to say have little or no firearm safety training or any kind of training in de-escalation skills so as to not have to use that firearm (no reference as to percents, just an educated guess). You would be foolish and a danger to others should you carry a firearm in public without having been properly trained in both safety and de-escalation. It is the same as having a loaded weapon in your residence- makes no sense!
Am I making sense here?
Somehow I think we sort of agree overall?
Just from different perspectives.
Later-
Jason
