First to Andrea and the rest of those that read, I apologize for my language, I take full responsibility for the content of my posts and feel that it was necessary in this post. If you look back at my posts, I typically use zero course language, however I also write on the level of that person with which I am having a discussion. When I read the original post and see Pig F###ers, I dropped to that level immediately. I felt the original post was rude, arrogant and ignorant and needed to be addressed. Regardless, I apologize.
Second, Kravitz, you apparently have trouble understanding sarcasm. The comment about just shooting the perp had nothing do do with the officer's training or my beliefs, I was stating they could do that so as not to inconvenience you or anyone around them as they fulfill the duty of their service.I had stated earlier in the post that I would never want to see someone hurt that includes the perp. There is absolutely zero evidence to state that O.C. spray (pepper) has any permenant effects on humans. (I have been directly hit with it and yes it can slow you down but it can't really hurt you(no known allergieseven with a pre-existing condition), especially if you routinely eat the peppers I do)
Second You compromise your opinion when you state:
They were not rioters. They were 18-22 year-old college students attending a football game, who wanted to celebrate a stupid football victory. Most of those injured were young females - hardly the sort to be enticing a riot. The railing that crushed so many kids was put in to enforce the "treat them like cattle" attitude
Yes- they were unruly and unresponsive to commands-Definition riotors. Further this railing was placed there based on University rules and proceedure, not the police department proceedure. Therefor maybe a crass remark about the University is in order not about the officers.(further if I remember correctly, weren't a large majority of those working the game stadium security not police officers? possibly another University SNAFU) And why you stated that many of the injured were young females, this also has nothing to do with the Police, they were the victims of the rioters (a sad reality), I've been to roughly 75 Penn State games in my life(Much Larger Crowds) and there have never been incidents such as this even when the students get unruley and let loose.( And we have National Championships to have celebrated!) Penn State is known for its Arts Festival Riots, but somehow the fans know how top celebrate a big win safely.
This is further shown at the Philly -Redskins game. You are correct that the Officers are put in a bad situation by the organizers of the events placing so many people in one area and encouraging them to drink excessively especially when 50 % of the crowd hates the other 50%. It was a crappy deal for the officers but they accept it and report to duty. By using the O.C. spray the officers were following their use of force continuum and while it may have discomforted some and halted the game for a few minutes, it also likely prevented escalation of the event and prevented people from getting injured- worth the side effects.
Kent, Kent, Kent.....
I agree with what you say, however the freedoms I am refering to have nothing to do with civil liberties or politics. I am referring to the freedom to feel safe with in one's community, the knowledge of knowing that there is help if you need it and the ability to know that there are people out there willing to give their lives to spare yours. There is nothing in the constitution that provides me the confidence of this type of freedom.
Kravitz- nothing personal is maeant in any of my posts- I have read many of your posts and you appear to be a reasonable level headed thinker, however I was greatly surprised to see you post such an ignorant and arrogant post. Anyway the debates been fun, hopefully if nothing else I caused you (or some other readers) to pause a moment and think about your opinion, ah hell who cares I'm going to listen to some Bad Religion. Peace Out.....for now
Later-
Jason
