As long as the US keeps supporting the Saudis, Wahhabi'ism is going to have a place to flourish - it is not a coincidence that bin Ladin and friends was mostly of Saudi origin, even though they operated out of Afghanistan. 

Also it is a fact that drug trading has been the center of whatever kind of backwards economy that shithole country has, pretty much since the discovery of opium. Unless you fix that problem you cannot hope to get even a little civilization. Sadly, a country based on a drug economy is destined to be anarchic in nature, due to the types of people involved such things.
