Thanks for the tips! I'll likely try the thing with matches this very week, as one or two plants have tiny blossoms coming in.

Often I have wet my pepper plants down, then dusted them with crushed cayenne. It seems to cut down on the devastation. When I get the goners replaced this weekend, I'll probably get back to that.
