Well, in all honesty I don't think we disagree all that much but I think that we're in an area where it's important to proceed with great caution. I'm fine with Imus being gone but kind of felt he was the scapegoat for a lot of other people's bad behavior. It seems you are saying you're glad he's gone because the other hate jocks will learn a lesson from that and really isn't that a bit like wanting to impale his body in the town square for all to see? Judge him just for what he said and if CBS or MSNBC want to can him for it fine. If I was in charge I would have just fired him right after he said it. I would have just told him that's not what I want to hear on the radio and not what we hired you for.

The Swiftboat thing is a whole other story and yeah you're right I think they should have been prosecuted for that because there is a difference between freedom of speech and slander. The Swiftboat thing was full of malice and bad intentions and meant to destroy Kerry and his candidacy. That to me is a crime against Kerry and this country. It's nowhere near the ballpark of Imus and his stupidity. I don't think Imus said what he did with the intention of causing harm to those women or ruining their careers. Yeah, as far as I'm concerned the Swiftboaters and anyone who supported them are traitorous pig fuckers that should be flogged, disemboweled and dragged through town by their entrails.

I think the personal attack and political editorial rules from the Fairness Doctrine were a good thing and obviously people like Rush, O'Reilly, Savage, Ingraham and their ilk can't be trusted not to slander people, lie and distort. I agree with you that's not right and giving them 4 hour shows to make derogatory comments and manipulate sound bytes and or video to make people look bad is off the wall. It should be policed by their employers but obviously they won't do it so there probably should be protections put in place.

I just get nervous anytime we approach stomping on the Bill of Rights and you know that old chestnut about the road to Hell and what it's paved with...

You know I'm willing to get all Wild Bunch with you but let's just make sure we're doing the right thing...then we can load up the chainsaws and do what needs to be done.
