Triage does seem to have been ahead of it's time in much the same way that Network was ahead of it's time, each work shining a light on things that would come to pass. So David, if Chayefsky was someone to be admired for what he created in your eyes so should you be for giving us Triage...despite the dark place from which it comes. I think you have to have a certain quality to complete something like that rather than crawl into a dark room and pull the covers over your head in a fog of depression and despair.
The thing is Network was not as dark as Triage and to see the process that angered you during the period you were writing it accelerated by the current administration is a brutal thing to witness.
As to your point Andrea, I get the feeling that "they" don't much care what we think or if we're thinking at all. "They" seem aweful emboldened these days being able to so overtly execute these schemes on such a grand scale.
Of course they have succeeded through terrorism in backing us into a corner and like all animals our response to this is fairly predictable. They now can pose the most base of questions to us and get the preferred response...Your child or theirs? Who will you chose to save?
They have convinced a large segment of our society that "they" are coming for us and want to destroy our way of life and kill innocents.
A never ending war against a mysterious enemy who knows no country or borders. A fight that justifies any means at our disposal and any action we take because "they only have to be right once, we have to be right every time" and "we don't want the smoking gun to be a mushroom cloud."
A war that justifies taking whatever we need to take and doing whatever we need to do in order to preserve our way of life.
They will ask the question "Whose child do you wish to save...yours or theirs?" and when they do, like all good lawyers, "they" will already know your answer. They will make us feel the choice is inevitable and completely black and white. Then they will do what needs to be done and Pat will stand up proud and say "They aren't pussies."
