Tell me true...would you vote for John Kerry simply in support of him, or is a large part of your motivation to vote that way, more a reflection of voting away/against GWB?
Yes, honestly I would vote for Kerry simply in support of him. I will also admit though that having been one of those folks that over the years has mainly voted the third party line this year I would have been tempted to vote for the Democrat no matter who it was. I am quite pleased though that the Democrat this time is somebody I actually like and respect and I can vote for him with a clean conscious.
I've never met Kerry but I know people who have. In fact a good friend of mine has played hockey with him. He is not a power hungry jackass from all that I understand about him. I've never heard anyone that has known him say anything like that about him so I find it sort of sad to hear him being characterized that way. I've heard a million stories about people named Kennedy from people who've known them and those stories run the gamut but with Kerry (and I grew up here in Massachusetts in Brookline and the suburbs) I've never heard a bad word about the guy. He does seem to be a guy that works very, very hard to meet his goals but I don't think that should be confused with being power hungry.
I think the thing you have to consider is that Kerry has been stuck in vicious campaign. They began attacking him right at the beginning of the year before he even had the nomination with stupid sex scandal stuff and finally got to their big slimefest with the Swift Boat Bullshit Artists. I think we're lucky to have a guy that's as clean and as tough as Kerry as our candidate because Rove and friends would have destroyed anyone else. I know I would have lost my cool more than once during this process if I were running. Under the circumstances I think Kerry's been great.
