I was thinking of the lunch counter demonstrations during the Civil Rights movement as I watched people getting married in San Francisco.
Sure, they're violating the law. So did the people who defied the lunch counter bans. In hindsight can anyone say now that the lunch counter demonstrations were wrong? They moved the judicial system to eventually declare racial discrimination illegal... and we're all better for their actions.
...and so far I haven't seen any evidence that society is crumbling because because people can eat where they like or marry the person they love.
