I think what's blatently obvious, to anyone that's paying attention, is that this "War On Terror" is a giant fabrication that's driven by political lust. There's a war within this war being fought in Washington. That was part of my point when I was posting about Rumsfeld getting the knife in the back from the Bush administration. I thought it was interesting that that story was out at the same time the papers were reporting another top FBI terrorist expert resigning his post. Also within that story the fact that people had been leaving the FBI like rats leaving a sinking ship, particularly within the branch that investigates terrorism. All this taking place while the obvious and already reported struggles (war?) between the CIA and Bush administration seemed to be coming to a head.
This was my main point. All hell seems to be breaking loose in Washington at a time when, supposedly, we are at war. When unity amongst these various agencies and a spirit of cooperation would seem to be most important. The Bush administration has never, and I mean never, projected an interest in cooperating with anyone or anything. It was pretty well documented that Bush smiled his way through the story about top level officials leaking the name of a CIA operative to the press. This is a serious crime and one that severely cuts the legs out from under his own administration as far as looking like a group that's serious about waging a war on terror. Smiling about it was totally inappropriate. Any sane man would have appeared outraged and went right to work and made it a top priority to remove the leakers because the CIA can't do their job if the administration is leaking names of their operatives. Bush seemed not to care. There is no "War On Terror" if this is our president's position.
The message from Bushco seemed to be that the CIA can't trust the administration and therefore Bush and Company become an enemy of the CIA. This was also why I believed Bush Sr. began lighting up the phone lines to Mr. Tenet's office. This was Daddy's CIA that lil' Georgie was screwing with now and I'm sure it was decided something needed to be done. Hence, quite possibly, embarrass Rumsfeld and stick the knife in his back. It's no big secret Cheney and Rummy are well hated among the DC set. This is, of course, speculation but of all the people Bushco could sacrifice, and you know that political payback required a sacrifice, Rummy was probably their best option. Cheney pulls the strings, that's obvious, lil' George is just the most embarrassing of front men. This quote from David's post seems to support this notion:
“What’s telling,” he added, “is that the story, whether it’s true or not, is believed”—an extraordinary commentary on the level of mistrust, bitterness, and demoralization within the C.I.A. under the Bush Administration.
These ideas seem to be lost on mainstream media. Television seems a total waste of time due to the limitations of what they can report and the idea that their content needs to be somewhat sensationalized to attract viewers. This story, following the war being waged within our own government, does not seem to be sexy enough and seems a bit too complex for the media to address it in any sort of meaningful way. So, we're left to play connect the dots on our own. Hell, the news I keep hearing when I turn on the radio or tv is all about abortion. That's great. I'm all for not killing babies but if we don't focus on these, somewhat baffling, political issues what sort of world will these babies be born into.
So, when I talk of setting moderate goals, what I really mean is if we have any goals here with our political discussions on the Baerwald Board, I think it should be that we should try and look at what these clowns are up to down there in DC. It's pretty obvious, I think, we have a problem. I don't think that it stems from any sort of partisianship or liberal media bias either. If you just look at the facts the casualties from this war are piling up...and not just in Iraq...the bodies fleeing the FBI leaving them thin...sacrificing our own CIA operatives to the media...various individuals being asked to fall on their swords and accept blame for the crazed behavior of Bushco. Even Rummy getting hung out to dry with Rice being put in charge of this new gang. How long will Tony Blair keep his job?
I find it hard to believe anyone could support an administration that has caused such turmoil and destruction, not just within the world community but in their own backyard. And all with such blatent disregard of it's consequences. I have to figure you really gotta be hardcore rightwing or just choose to look in the other direction to continue to support these loons. To go on record here, I don't hate Bush or his cronies...I hate what they are doing to our country and the world though. It's mighty sad indeed.
