Well, yeah, what I mean by a Night of the Long Knives is a purge, a consolidation of power where Trump is told he should eliminate some factions of MAGA that don't really align with the true goals of those running MAGA. I don't think Trump would go after Musk, because Musk seems the real golden goose and now appears more important to those that run/ride the MAGA horse than Trump himself is.
Well, nothing would surprise me at this point, but I still think that Trump's real value to the shadow-people at the CNP, Tech-Nazis, Koch, etc is for the present as a figurehead, but in the long run as a martyr. My bet is towards the end of his second year, if not sooner.
Musk and Trump and the top of the MAGA pyramid I think have no use for different factions of MAGA. Like Steve Bannon hates Musk. Bannon keeps claiming he is running a revolution for the people, for the working class, and he calls Musk evil, an evil man he is sworn to stop. Could be bullshit, but I see no use for Bannon under the Musk led MAGA. Plus Musk is destroying things, he is actively taking from the poor to give to the rich. Bannon is a useless noisemaker now and not the noise Musk wants made.
Bannon does seem eminently purgeable to me, a blabbermouth and contemptible crook, who, racist as he is, is not racist enough for a white apartheid South African cabal. But I think you could easily say much the same of Trump.
I think they are following the Nazi playbook to try to make this a single party country, then pledge loyalty to the party or you will be punished but I think some of the first people they punish, that they purge, will be people that were loyal to MAGA but don't actually fit with the "Musk" agenda.
I agree, to an extent, but I think it's a mistake to expect this particular gang to hew to identical Nazi prototypes--though the impulses are from time immemorial, the specifics of tyrannical rule are pretty variegated, from era to era and region to region. But purges are sort of standard operating procedure in a totalitarian takeover. Stalin, of course, had a mania for purges.
I feel like this is Musk's party. Trump to me, every time I see him now, looks exhausted and sounds confused. They hand him things to sign, he signs them and goes on a weird ramble. Musk is trying to rampage through the government with a bunch of kiddy hackers, stealing things, shutting things down, breaking things, and directing the money into his pockets and the pockets of the super rich.
Musk promised suffering for the masses and he damn sure is looking to deliver that. Trump is signing whatever they put in front of him and yammering about paper straws.
I went to the grocery store last night to buy coffee and a 10 ounce bag of coffee that was $8.99 just last week was $11.99 last night. That is not going to make the MAGA rubes happy. They will notice that and they are not going to think paying $11.99 for something they paid $8.99 for a few days ago is "patriotic."
I think, maybe, what could happen is Musk's MAGA, the billionaire tech bro class, might want to cull the herd...because he thinks he does not need these people and they are going to bitch way too much to make them worth having around.
I believe I read that during the Night of the Long Knives when Hitler signed off on sending people out to conduct executions, some of the lower rabble actually saluted and yelled "Heil Hitler!" as they were shot. I can see the lower level MAGA loons doing that as Musk and Trump remove them.
They will die unmourned, for the most part.
