Is what we will see in this new attempt we might not have seen in the attempts of the past.
These MAGA nuts, particularly the elected ones, are very emboldened by Musk's money and the way he just bought the presidency. This excites them to no end. It makes them feel they don't need the public, they just need Musk and whatever other billionaires that will back this new attempt to take over and destroy a democracy.
I certainly see the overreach. Nothing seems legal about DOGE, about how Musk can lead a made-up organization into the halls of our government and using a bunch of kiddy hackers start rummaging through anything and everything they want. I know it is pointless to say but imagine the rage and panic that would occur if a Democrat won election, then invented a new government agency, run by a billionaire donor, that just strolled into our government and started to shut things off and go through protected data...using a bunch of kids with no clearance to do so.
Which on a positive note, has been stopped by the courts and as I understand it, whatever information they took now is required to be destroyed. So, they can't keep it. Of course, Trump's people will challenge this ruling, and the battle will now be in court, and Trump wants to take everything to the Supreme Court, which he believes is rigged in his favor. And perhaps it is, they certainly have made bizarre rulings that do not seem to align with precedent and that undermine the rule of law.
I always worry what I am not seeing, as an example with this USAID deal. Trump did not campaign on destroying USAID. In fact, Marco Rubio asked Biden to expand the budget for USAID, said it was less than 1 percent of our spending and our return on those funds was huge. USAID had been fully supported by many Republicans...now after Elon called the organization evil, full of evil people, now Rubio does not want to comment on it and has agreed to destroy it.
The reason I can see to destroy USAID is because it will cause chaos and death around the world and it will make the United States appear the bad guy. According to Rubio, this will deeply impact our national security and allow for other nations to step in, like China or Russia, and vastly improve their standing and influence around the globe.
No MAGA voter voted for that. They voted for a decrease in inflation and the cost of things. Oddly, Trump was elected and turned on his heel, said he can't and won't fix inflation, can't bring down costs, and instead will do what he can to cause inflation and costs to rise...and he is doing that. Let's destroy USAID was not a part of the platform he was selling.
It was bait and switch. He is doing what he can to cause world chaos that will cause suffering everywhere, including in the United States. Musk promised the American people would suffer, that they must suffer, he is following through on that.
MAGA won't be able to control the American people by continuing to spew empty promises at them. So, as they begin to wake up, get very angry, the obvious course of action is to attempt to instill fear in the populace. That seems the likely route they will take.
