Personally, I think this thing is WAY overblown. There are literally thousands of arrests such as Donovan Jackson's on any given day across the country. Surely it's not too much of a suprise that occasionally one is going to get out of control. But then again, I know I'd have a tough time controlling my temper if someone (white, black, asian, hispanic etc) grabbed my balls and scratched my face...
The thing that really bugs me however, is that some citizens of L.A. seem hell bent on making their police force look bad. Why are people videotaping this stuff to begin with? I fear there can only be one reason. Remember too, that we only got to see a short little clip plastered all over the news. The "brutality" part. We didn't get to see the whole affair. How can we really judge if it was brutality or not?
I got roughed up by cops once when I was around 21 (not much differently than Donovan Jackson's case). Although I didn't think so at the time, I eventually came to appreciate the fact that I deserved it. I was a cocky, mouthy little punk up to no good. Occasionally people need a good rap on the noggin. Worked for me anyway.
