Maybe you don't see some of the issues as being biased because you agree with the way they're being reported.

I think media coverage is biased, but not along left-right lines. Stockholders and CEOs have supplanted editors as arbiters of what makes it to the airwaves or the front page, and how it's reported. And investigative journalism? Pffffft. It's dead. As you might have guessed, no, I don't agree with the whats and hows of local and nightly news. It's nearly worthless. But the liberal media is a big fat myth.

I don't keep track of examples but I know it when I see it.

That doesn't really help us when it comes to debate. If you're going to level accusations, you should be able to back them up.

I watch how the mainstream media refers to a reduction in the growth of Medicare as a 'cut' in Medicare.  I remember how the Republicans shut down the government in '95...why wasn't it reported that the Democrats were the responsible party?  That sort of thing happens all the time.

Sensationalistic language isn't limited to pet liberal stories, Kevin. You must admit this. The media overplays an angle of any given story. Whatever will get you to tune in. And as far as the government being shut down, I saw plenty of stories leveling the blame either way. Maybe the stories blaming the Republicans offended you, so you remember them.

The mainstream media is quick to quote a person from 'NOW' to speak for the women of America but how often do you hear them let a person from a conservative group speak for women in general?  Seldom if ever.

Balderdash. First of all, I don't know what you call "quick," but I've found that treatment of women's issues in the media is rather sparse to begin with. But to say that there is little to no conservative female voice in the media is to ignore the facts. What about the Independent Women's Forum? For a women's group, they're all over the press. How about Concerned Women for America? The press loves to trot them out too. I could go on, but you get the idea.

The media is quick to point out when a person being interviewed is a conservative but the same can't be said when they've got somebody from a liberal organization on the line...after all...they're liberal and they're simply mainstream so it doesn't need to be pointed out.

Again, I'd love an example of this if you can provide it.

How many stories have you seen on the evening news lately about the good (and there are many) things which are happening daily in Iraq?  All they seem to focus on are the casuality numbers which are certainly all too depressing.  There is another side to be told but I'm not hearing it from the mainstream news.  Are you?

Yes, the media focuses on negativity. Are you just now realizing this? We're constantly bombarded with stories about "epidemics" that aren't, "trends" that don't really exist, and phantom dangers. It gets people to tune in, buy papers, whatever. Why do you think changes in the ridiculous color-coded terror alert system are announced and analyzed ad nauseum? This is nothing new, Kevin, and it certainly isn't limited to Iraq. Pretend you're the owner of a news group and ask yourself what's going to sell more papers--a story about a soldier dying, or a story about a soldier digging a well?
