...they feel it would rip the country apart and result in a civil war. Plus it is sort of a handshake deal between the parties and the Justice Department that they will not ever do that to any president or any person high enough up the chain that it could cause a major rift in the country. Honestly, I think the Democrats and Justice department will stick to that.
I kind of doubt the Republican party would stick to it and I would not trust them to do so.
The issue with this is we have a beaten down populace that has lost faith in the idea that "nobody is above the law."
If you took a poll, does not matter who you ask, if they lean right or left, do they think nobody is above the law they would all tell you, the rich and powerful are above the law. Nobody would expect Trump to pay a price for his crimes or to be held accountable. They have been convinced over time that these people walk.
And they do.
The Republican party and Trump and his cronies have taken up the strategy to just keep things cycling through the justice system for years to run out the clock until they reach an election cycle and they take back the Senate and potentially the House. If they accomplish this, and it sure looks like they will, well, they already control the Supreme Court.
Trump, and no other former president has ever done this, just never stops running to control his party and undermine our country. When have you ever seen a sitting president hold wacko rally after wacko rally? To continue to hold these rallies after he has left office and intentionally work to undermine the sitting president? To undermine people within his own party? To threaten people in his own party nonstop?
This never happens...until Trump.
He was impeached twice in a single term. He likely could have been impeached three times. However, he remains the voice of the Republican party, Basically, only a small handful of Republicans have been willing to stand up to him. They won't even distance themselves from his blatant and insane lies.
This is what everybody is thinking when prosecuting him comes up. Behind closed doors when they think nobody hears them, sure, Republicans say they think Trump is scum. But they will defend him, praise him, lie for him in public. How does Kevin McCarthy look in a mirror? This guy has said over and over when he thought nobody was listening Trump is scum...in public, he acts as if Trump is the second coming of Jesus Christ.
I know that's a game, you know that's a game, they play the tapes on TV so you can hear McCarthy say what he really thinks, but when he knows he is in front of cameras...it is a Trump lovefest and he will say that is because he has to appeal to voters that, while they are disgusting, they are his voters. Great!
The Republicans are promising to impeach Joe Biden if they regain control of the Senate and House. Biden has not committed an impeachable act but that is not the point. The point is, the diseased portion of the Republican party wants to get some payback and create a circus to help them in 2024.
Does the country want or need Joe Biden to go through a fake impeachment because the Republicans want a circus and are ashamed Donald Trump was a loser twice impeached pile of garbage?
Nope. However, Republicans will not tell their voters anything about any policy they would work toward enacting, they claim they will let us know once elected. They will tell us they promise to impeach Biden though...with him not having committed a single crime. Great!
Trump remains the key figure in the Republican party, he continues to dance around running for president again, he continues to threaten people in his party to lie for him or he and his scum followers will come after you. Threaten you and your family. Run you out of public office. Pledge loyalty to him or he will applaud, as he did when he heard crowds were chanting "Hang Mike Pence!" having you killed. He said, and people in his circle testified to this, Pence deserved it. Great!
That's an American president wishing lynching and death on his vice president.
Pretty sure you'd have a hard time finding anybody that truly thinks the United States is exceptional. We are not even united, so Trump and the Republicans have made even our name ridiculous.
