Obviously, I was in a mood when I wrote that and sure there is some sarcasm in there but basically this is the state of our nation. What I say in that post about how the Republican party is doing business and about first grade teachers having bullet proof vests and triage kits is factual though. 

Yes, you guys in Europe have an old fashioned war happening right now where one country attacks another country. It's dangerous for all of Europe and bad for the entire planet. As that drags on it becomes more and more of a threat that it could escalate which would be horrible.

In the United States, our war is Americans fighting Americans. We have a daily death toll as well. Shooting occur daily. The motivations for the shootings vary, but the one in Buffalo was motivated by Republican politicians and TV show hosts pushing and agreeing with "white replacement" conspiracies. So, that guy was not crazy, he was angry and wanted to kill black people.

This thread is about the hearings for the insurrection at the capitol. The thing is though the reasons for that are the same as why we have mass shootings daily. Basically, right wing media, right wing social media, Republican politicians including former president Trump have been feeding the public total lies, propaganda, and utter nonsense to incite them. In doing so, we have an enraged and dangerous segment of the population here that are armed and no longer believe in their country and they mostly hate their fellow countrymen. 

This segment of the public, the ones that most need to see and listen to these hearings, won't be watching them. FOX News is not going to broadcast them live like the rest of the networks. They will instead run their regular shows, with their regular lying hosts, spewing propaganda and telling their audience these hearings are fiction. Nothing to see hear and the people at the capitol that day were just regular tourists, with maybe a few bad apples. 

They can't afford to admit that a Republican president tried with the help of hundreds in his party to create a coup to steal an election and destroy our democracy. In truth I think they can and should admit it because Republican voters will still support Republican candidates if they admit it but they fear the cult, they created in this country, that will send them death threats and won't vote for them if they admit it. 

You have to look at what happens after a mass shooting or a terrorist attack on our capitol by right wing Americans. The reaction of the right is not "We have to stop this!" and to try to prevent it happening again. Not at all, it is to further incite people and to try to portray the Democrats as evil and lying. 

So, instead of having a reaction from right wing voters where they think about what happened, think about why it happened and how to prevent it, they instead go in the total opposite direction. They impulse buy more guns and ammo. They become even more convinced that the attack on the capitol was either right or harmless. They become more angry that Democrats and liberals are their enemy and are coming for their guns, their kids, their money and they become even more intent on destroying our country so it can become some kind of weird dictatorship run by horrid people like Trump, his kids, Ron DeSantis, Greg Abbott, and the rest of the list of scum.

What I am saying is, while there will be people that watch these hearings and learn from them. That are moved by how insane the attack on our capitol was, well, they are most likely to be people that don't vote Republican, don't watch FOX News or other right wing propaganda outlets, and want to keep a democracy here. So, basically the people you would expect to watch them. 

The people that need to watch them won't see them and will continue to believe it is all some big lie constructed by Nancy Pelosi. The hearings, even though they won't see them, will essentially act as a commercial for their conspiracy theories and wacko beliefs. So, as they go on it will just incite them more because FOX, right wing media, and social media will be screaming at them it is all a sham, hold on to your guns, we need to fight for our country. 

These hearings are an event on both sides of the aisle, the Democrats trying to give the people the truth and the Republicans using that truth to further incite the angry mob they call their base. The Republicans would prefer you don't hear that truth but they know with their voters, particularly that 35% that are totally enraged, these hearings are also an opportunity to further enrage them. 

Those voters can't or don't want to hear truth. In fact if a Republican tells them the truth, Trump and his flunkies slaughter them in the media, and the wacko contingent of the party sends them and their family death threats. 

This is how we now function as a country. We have one side of our political system, the entire Republican party, run by fear, insanity, stupidity, and a racist violent agenda. Trust me, not all Republicans like this BUT the 35% or so that do, well, that's enough to frighten the rest of them into going along with it. 

This is why I say it does not take a majority to destroy our democracy, it takes a percentage of the population angry enough to frighten enough people to go along with it. Make no mistake, we now meet that criteria in the United States. 

We are now at the point where I am not sure we can turn back. 

What really looks horrifying is the Democrats look like they may be too inept to turn things around and the Republicans look too frightened to turn things around.

When they have these hearings about the capitol attack on January 6, I hope they understand that this won't be about convincing our nation that we nearly lost our democracy and country because of what Republicans did...because a good portion of our population will never hear nor trust a word they say. The people they need to get through to, that they need to stand up to what went wrong, that they need to get fighting for truth and democracy and our nation are their Republican colleagues. 

It should be mandatory that every one of them watches and hears every second of these hearings. It really is their job and duty to do so because these hearings are about protecting our country and preserving our democracy. They need to hear it and they need to finally act to help fix the problem they helped create.

The problem with that is Republican politicians have proven themselves over and over and over again to be some of the most gutless people in our country.
