But what I don't get is... what is it that the republicans (the people IN the party) hope to achieve by dismantling the US democracy and putting fascism in its place ? How on earth does that in any way help them...
OK, well, there has to be an idea in their heads, an end result and some sort of model right? I would say their model is Putin's Russia. Essentially, a kleptocracy with a strongman leader and a group of oligarchs that have all wealth and power in the country concentrated in that small group. Others follow and obey that small group for their own well being and profit. All information is controlled by this group and the citizens are fed an endless stream of propaganda that tells them over and over how great their country is and how great their strongman leader is and how great his oligarch junta is. It means absolute power for them with no more need to have to deal with elections or public opinion.
This does not work well for the country but for the power circle they rape the country of all its wealth and all assets of any value. Your personal rise or fall is based upon your level of loyalty and displays of loyalty to them. They have no price to pay for this raping and pillaging except the potential that someone gets too greedy and tries to take more for himself and perhaps kills off one or more of the power circle. I know I have just described something fairly simple but that is what I see here as the goal. I think most of the elected lunatic Republicans that are in love with this plan probably would prefer to have someone other than Trump play the strongman part because he is just too greedy and likely would kill off oligarchs randomly for his own benefit. He was loyal to nobody but himself.
People like Ted Cruz, Jim Jordan, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Green, Lauren Boebert, they would all rise in power and wealth in this little kleptocracy dream. So, there is your win.
In terms of anarchy, old laws would no longer stand. There would be no anarchy because rather than there being a law that you can't unleash the US military on the people of the United States, they would remove that and they would control the military and as Trump wanted to do when he was president, they would unleash the US military on our own people. He tried to do that. Thankfully at that point the guardrails held. Next time, if the sick part of the Republican party achieves their goals, we won't be so lucky. Our military will function not to defend the country but as a force to put down any resistance to the strongman leader and his cronies. As in, say, Egypt. Their military is not really to fight wars with other nations, it is designed to control the populace.
So, my take is there is clear benefit to Republicans doing this and the attempt with Trump as president was the trial run. Mainly because he was the first US president that was willing to try it.
I may be wrong here, but I assume that one enters into politics for some ideological reason and have some ideas on how to make the system work more to your liking.
Well, I think many like Trump, Jim Jordan, Mitch McConnell, Margorie Green, Ted Cruz, Lindsey Graham...so many of these people enter for personal gain. If you get to Washington DC, you are suddenly going to have a whole lot of people looking to stuff money in your pockets. There is a place called K Street, which is lobbyist central and they are there specifically to facilitate these transactions.
What is currently happening can end in 3 ways (or two both leading to the third) - either fascism/dictatorship or anarchy. Both of these will inevitably lead to the third - civil war.
How on earth can any of these outcomes be positive for anyone who enters into politics ? Makes no sense to me...
Once they control the government, they change legislation so that state legislators choose who won an election in Republican states rather than the voters, they will control the judicial system and the military and law enforcement.
There won't be anarchy, not then, just a deep and painful sigh as another democracy fades away.
