Paul Ryan is young enough and perhaps has the looks such that he could mount a comeback someday. That may have entered his thinking. I'm not sure, however, that he's sharp-witted or even aggressive enough to win from the right or center-right. If the vaccines work or largely work then Biden/Harris will hit the ground with positive economic momentum. This severely limits arguments from the right. That's why I'd advise them that while perhaps rolling back some Trump tax cuts, a gradual and steady approach would be better. Will they be able to? I haven't yet seen who will control the House, but I believe it is still the Dems, albeit with a smaller majority. That would, of course, be crucial to any changes in tax policy.
What I would like to see is a return of at least some of the environmental legislation neutered by Trump. That's not all altruistic. We've been working a large group of alternative energy and catalytic investments that almost instantly become more economical and profitable to deploy if regulations call for more stringent emissions. Bring it on. It'll be good for us, and it'll be better for the health of the nation.
