Grete and I have watched it for the past 6-7 years - she watched it as a child in Romania. I think the contest has always been a bit camp - but since I've been watching it - it's very very camp. Which can be fun. There are the occasional really good song - but mostly the theatrics and the presentation is why we watch.
It's a also a good chance to see the political/social/historical links between the European countries that bubble up during the "voting" period - ie. the UK hasn't stood a chance of winning any time recently (regardless being the home of some of the greatest music of the 20th-21st century).
Australia is somehow in it now - and will probably win it sooner or later. So there's that.
