I have read that 100,000 people will die in the United States every year because of hospital-acquired infections. We lost 3,000 Americans on 9/11, and declared war. Why isn't there an even greater effort on the home front to battle this lethal and predictable threat? In my class, I don't require the kids to carry a pass to the restroom as I know it will return, only to spread filth to everyone else. I taught my daughter years ago to wash her hands, and exit a bathroom by using a paper towel on the faucet and door handle. She has my permission to toss it on the floor if there isn't an available basket. I think left and right can shake hands on this hygienic effort, but promptly wash thereafter.Peter T.
