I’ve come to imagine most (yeah, I said most) people in positions of power nowadays (for a long-long time really) are like the character Noah Cross in China Town or worse. Never rich enough, never affluent enough, never enough real estate, never a big enough legacy, no conscience ~ which they call being an adult, never ever enough, no matter how old and bitter and diseased they get. Those learned souls who did at one time try to oppose this ilk with notions of…well, better notions, I suppose, were summarily blackballed from the hierarchy, through fear of well, probably…death and other unpleasant life consequences, leaving only the roaches who now occupy the highest places of our disillusioned present-day First World. & there’s them…& the covert J. Edgar Hoover sorts, and the blackballed wealthy scholars & the bottom-of-the-gene-pool posh who’re too accustomed to resort living anymore to press for reform, & the nouveau riche who only seem to care about staying that way, & the sideswiped remainder of us, …& that’s all that’s left of our country. & as long as the Hoovers keep the bankers and other assorted ultra-rich in the catbird seat with scary things like tax laws & health insurance (what a crock) & compounds & guns & billboards of terror & electronic fun, there’s never going to be a good reason to fix what is so outrageously broken that even the children of our (ill-at-ease) present-day can see it. Lucid Reg, conceptual Reg, angry Reg, affecting Reg, I, for one, appreciate your post. It’s good to know there’s still some philosophy out there that means something of value to all of us. But I think we’ve been driven too far beyond the place where anybody actually listens anymore. Oh, we hear alright. We hear it every day. But we don’t listen. Not anymore. Not even those of us who can love. We’re all too filled to capacity way down here in bottomworld where bozos ride busses into purgatory & guitar players are a nickel a bakers’ dozen & the scholar is fodder & the water is toxic. But that’s only a crackpot viewpoint. Probably it’s much, much worse than all of that. Or maybe…so much more simple that we should all be ashamed of ourselves for not having already gotten to the bottom of it and reclaimed all or most of those ideas that Reg took a few minutes to write down in his spare time.
