I hope you are right about Obama becoming the next Prez, out of all of the possible candidates I like him the best. HOWEVER, I am not at all convinced that America is ready for a black president, connected to a preacher with significant radical anti-white beliefs, whose name rhymes with Osama, with the obvious Muslim connections that the name entails, in this post 911 world. I will hope for Obama, but he surely does not have a free walk to the presidency. I am afraid that there is still enough racism and fear of Muslims to make the Presidential battle a real fight.

As far as the comparison to RFK goes, I am not sure that comparing Obama to RFK is all that complimentary. What did RFK do, besides get into the Presidency via his wealthy families money, rumoured to be funded via the mafia, whilst cheating on his wife with whatever female that he could and making stupid decisions like the Bay of Pigs fiasco? Is it enough to be good looking and well spoken, with the right last name? If so, RFK has few peers. But, if one wants a bit more substance, there is no shortage of better examples of leadership and character.

Regardless, what to do about the war? Hmmm, the great Bush and all of his wealthy buddies stuck the country in it didn't they? Hope they made lots of money..... Basically, there are two options. Give a date and leave regardless of the consequences, or do the right thing and finish what was started. It is a tough one, many would argue that the original decision was misguided at best, and that there should not be a need to finish what was started by a group of fools who lied to the country to convince them to support a war that was clearly inappropriate at best. It is a no win situation.

Climate change is really no immediate concern, simply funding alternative fuels, raising the CAFE, and forcing industry to become more efficient should be enough. Hopefully the government will not be too intimidated by the oil producers to take such actions, because I am sure that if money were made availabe to really research alternative fuel supplies that significant gains could be made quickly. Does anyone really need to drive V8 powered SUV's that get 10 MPG? Unless you are on a farm, the answer is HELL NO!

Government has always been full of thieves, so now is nothing different. The only thing that will change that is the citizens being less tolerant and more involved in making them accountable.

That being said, the US is in an enviable position in that it is the most powerful country in the world at the moment and have loads of resources. Let's see what the people decide the future will be.....hasn't been an impressive direction recently IMO.
