I guess my viewpoint is a little different, in that I am/have always been a huge Springsteen fan, but have never had the chance to see him live, and I am not likely to, certainly not on my home soil. (He has never played SA, for some reason.)
I take every Springsteen album on it's own merit. You can not possibly compare Born In The USA to Tom Joad... Two very different albums... Might as well be two different artists. I also have albums I listen to far more than others.... Yes, Lucky Town is not high up that list. Tunnel Of Love is probably the album I have listened to most, and particularly side B (In vinyl terms) I can never ever get tired of. If you are a male of any age over 21, something somewhere on that album is going to hit you at some point.
I have all the Springsteen DVD's except the most recent (Live In Dublin, which is apparently brilliant) and this is the closest I have come to the live experience. I enjoy the material from 2000 recorded at Madison Square Garden, but my favourite is Storytellers, because it is as close as I will get to sitting in his living room while he tinkers on a piano or acoustic guitar.
I have heard the new single (on Amazon, not local radio) and as with every release of his, I am eager to hear the rest... I feel, arrogantly perhaps, that I know exactly what he is going for with this one, and I hope I am right. A very good friend in the US has preordered a copy for me, and I cannot wait for it to arrive!
