I'm going through this now also except, mine is a cat. She had a mild stroke not long ago and it is painfully obvious that the time is approaching. She seemed lethargic yesterday but is a bit brighter this a.m.
It's always difficult to lose a loving friend. I live alone and my animals are pretty much my only companions so it makes it even harder.
There's nothing selfish about grief.
