& knowing, beyond th' shadow of a doubt, his dad's love.  JMHO.

I, too, lived in the house of a father who was remote [and irrefutably authoritative].

It seemed to be the exemplar of the manly-man dad.  Surely it was some kind of “ism”. 

& I, too, have been an open book to my sons...both in truths and in foibles openhandedly.

While watching them close for signs of who they are...and who they are becoming....

& it’s cool...and it seems to be bringing about inspired, gifted, accomplished & decent citizens of the world; ...which doesn’t, at all, suck.
