There are so many contradictions in life. On the one hand, conservatives try to make having sex a terrible thing under their preferred circumstances, but make no real comments about how the free markets sell sexuality to us and change our thinking. What is ever said to corporations about selling sexuality to us and our children? (A great book to read is "You Can't Buy My Love)
Nature and need for the survival of the species (us) demands we propagate and as a country we turn this into a dirty subject. We make masterbation full of guilt and refuse to let people outside the home (teachers) teach children the birds and the bees when parents at home, in many of these homes where it needed, are incapable of.Then we fail to understand that for a group of people the good feelings of sex might be one of the good feelings they get out of life. I do not know the history of abortion, but would venture a guess that those who could always pay for an abortion always could find a person to perform one. However, in all of this, I wish the need for abortion did not exist, but believe this is a decision for a woman to make (not including the cases of the mentally disabled or children). I honestly believe that if this issue was reversed and involved the male's body it would not even be an issue. There is one thing about sex education when it comes to conservative thinking that has always made me wonder. And this is, why is that conservatives are not against teaching kids about drugs in the school, but when the subject of sex education comes in they say, "hey, we can't teach them about that because if we do, they will start having sex." And the argument that the bad things about drugs are being taught can't be used, because if a kid it taught about the negative aspects of sex, i.e. pregnancy, unwanted children, STDs, then this is the same thing. Sarah, your post put forth other aspects of abortion that earlier have not registered with me as much as theyshould have. And I would imagine your passion towards this subject might be felt by more of us if we were more empathetic towards women in America. EEE
