Was just thinking about doubt yesterday, Peter.  But in a different sense.  It was a thought about my mother's very certain religious faith, which leaves pretty much no room for doubt and does seem to be an enormous comfort for her.  That said, and while I retain many of the right/wrong teachings I got out of that, it's always seemed to me really unlikely that there is a kind of unerring divine guide.  Rather, even since childhood, doubt seemed actually logical to me.  And really digging in and thinking about that doubt was actually interesting to me, not a source of anxiety.  Perhaps acknowledging that near-impossibility of having the perfect take on everything but trying to develop a sense of empathy and a personal moral conscience can stave off that anxiety.
