You're missing the point on several counts Mick.

The passage is clearly referencing the able bodied. Jews, Christians and heathens alike made allowance for the disadvantaged, whether they be widows, or the lame, whathaveyou but they generally found a way for them to contribute too. The Law freed slaves and debtors every Jubilee. You don't find that in Britain or the US, nor the UN. [recalling that the issue is whether it's governments job to provide healthcare]

As I recall, Jesus ceased the feedings precisely because many began to follow him for that reason alone, which he found unsatisfactory; but as I just read your post moments ago, I haven't dug that up and it prolly a waste of time bothering...isn't it, your mind is already made up...is it not?

I don't know the 613 rules of The Law by heart but I'm guessing letting willful freeloaders starve until they are motivated to attempt to provide for themselves(& their offspring), is covered therein. Not unlike the Christian era Paulian passage I quoted that all respondents object to:

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat".

peaceably,
