I think GM's quote above pretty clearly indicates that 'Jesus' is a pretty worn out metaphor. The poor guy is just used now to bolster the ideology of bigots and conservatives, and to improve the opportunity for pandering by Presidential candidates.

You clearly cannot make points with a guy who believes Jesus 'clearly drew a line where charity should reasonably end", though I'd certainly be curious to know his source for that one ....
