Ok - so I've watched this guy the past few nights - to get a feel for what the right's talking points are these days per the war in Iraq. Anyway - he said a couple of things that I would like his fans here on the board to address - these are not Iraq related btw.
1. The first one deals with the Paris Hilton tape that is currently making the rounds online. First of all - he promos the spot with actual screen shots from the tape which I think shows he has no tact whatsoever. He does say - we won't show you the video for taste reasons...but we can show you these stills. Uhh, Bill...you won't show the tape because it's x-rated - it has nothing to do with "taste" - if it did, you wouldn't even show the stills. But it got worse. His final analysis of the tapes making their way online was that he thought if she was so stupid to make the tapes in the first place - then she should suffer the consequences. Here are some of his words -
"Now, let's look at some of this Paris Hilton stuff. And I don't feel sorry for this dopey woman, as I stated....she's getting what she deserves for being foolish"
I take this to mean that if someone (anyone!) tapes themselves having sex then they should be punished by having every one who desires have access to the tapes. Or does it mean that if you're "dopey" then you deserve people being able to watch private videos you may make?
Ok - topic two. It's common knowledge that oreilly doesn't like rap music. Well, tonight he says he's been getting letters from parents who wonder why he doesn't accuse Britney Spears of corrupting impressionable youths as well. His argument basically came down to two things. One - he said he didn't know a single person who would ever buy her CDs. What?! Does it matter if he doesn't know someone who bought her CD? It's almost like he's trying to make her out to be some type of marginal figure in music - hey, if I don't know anyone who buys her stuff...then no one must be buying it. This girl has sold 26 million CDs. Something tells me he knows someone who owns one. His second point was that if she were targeting young girls with her music, then he'd have a problem with it. Is this guy serious? I would think that if you were to poll grade school and junior high school girls who their fav. female singer was - I would think Britney would rank right near the top. She didn't get there by targeting the classical music set.
Do you guys really agree with him on these things?
Dan
