Icon downtime and a big change

Thank you for your patience during the downtime. I needed a little space to think — and then to make some changes.

The DBIS began in the late ’90s as a way to gather and share the music and history of David Baerwald. His early involvement sparked a community that has kept the site alive—sometimes quietly, sometimes vibrantly—for more than 28 years.

Over that time, this place has been a creative outlet for me, a sandbox of rebuilds and reinventions. Even more importantly, it has brought me friendships I deeply value — ones that simply wouldn’t exist without this site.

Very recent events led me to pause and re-examine what the DBIS should be. The heart of this site has always been David’s music. That’s why it began, and why anyone new ever wandered in. But the lines between the music archive and the message board have sometimes blurred, and I don’t want the informal chatter of the board to ever be mistaken as a representation of David’s work or legacy.

So, I’ve made a decision: DBIS will continue as a message board only. The old music-related posts still exist within the board’s history, but there are no longer separate pages with streaming or organized collections of the music. The site is no longer a David Baerwald music resource — and that’s intentional.

As for the future? I honestly don’t know yet. But I do know I wasn’t ready to let this community disappear. Whatever shape DBIS takes from here, I’m grateful for everyone who’s been part of it — and I’m still listening.
