So, the gun charge is an odd one but it is as simple as when you fill out the form to buy a gun there is a question about if you are using any illegal drugs. This is kind of hilarious in that, why would anybody check that box YES? Obviously, if you are not a moron, you would know that checking YES next to that question means you are not going to be able to buy a gun. You are not being drug tested, you are just being asked a question about if you are using drugs. Who would admit to that if they really wanted the gun?
It is such a hilarious question that supposedly if you check the box NO and you are using illegal drugs the penalty is up to 10 years in jail...which is what Republicans want Hunter to get.
Problem is, there has to be hard evidence of your drug use and you have to get caught at the time. Like, Hunter would have needed to get caught with the crack pipe in his mouth and gun in his hand or something. It is an easy charge to get around, so unless you have something slam dunk, I would think a prosecutor would not bring this case...which is probably why a plea deal was reached, it just is a questionable case to bring to trial.
Now, I have no doubt Hunter probably was on drugs when he bought the gun. He supposedly was buying it with the specific purpose of killing himself. It's a rather sad story. I think this is why the Republican loons want to use it, its a huge weak spot to torment Joe Biden over his once suicidal son. Great, the best of humanity on display there.
This case has been brought years later after Hunter only had the gun for 11 days. He probably never fired it because he only intended to shoot it once...into his own skull. Also, outside of Hunter's own admission of drug use and suicidal thoughts in his attempt to clean up...there is no real solid evidence. They have two things, an application to buy a gun and a memoir written many years later. Seems incredibly thin. Even the witnesses they have been bringing up, with the exception of the stripper, say they never saw Hunter using drugs. Odd since he is the one that supposedly got his sister-in-law hooked on crack but she says she never saw him do it.
And then the laptop, supposedly this case is just another attempt to publicize this laptop. I don't know what the laptop has to do with him buying a gun or using drugs, so seems unconnected, plus supposedly the laptop itself was tampered with which has destroyed it as evidence of anything.
I get the MAGA twats wanting to use this, that's typical stupidity, but why would a prosecutor bring this case which kind of looks like a sure loser?
