I don't want to come across as being mired in indifference, I do feel sadly that not much shocks me these days. We have a former US president quoting Adolf Hitler in telling us what he will do if he gets reelected, telling us openly at least 65% of the country he thinks are vermin...the country he claims he wants to represent as president again. He has his lawyers in court telling a judge that he should be able to spew lies about whatever he wants while he runs for office...yes, openly admitting he wants to lie to his followers...and they still follow him, lemmings to the cliffside. 

When it comes to Pat Brown or Marc, I get the sense that they don't think we are vermin to be exterminated. If a guy like Trump or DeSantis came to power and did indeed begin the extermination of their perceived enemies, first by jailing and/or executing politicians and former cabinet members that they felt were "disloyal" to the master...well...would they stay silent and go along with watching a Trump continue the jailings and executions of anyone he perceived as against him, immigrants, people who speak out about him on the internet, the media that tells the truth about him, until there was nothing but silence?

It would be at his discretion who was deemed an undesirable worthy of termination. I am not exaggerating, he has now publicly promised to deliver this. He says he will be the "retribution." 

I am guessing your German relatives do not feel connected to the horrors of what the Nazis did. That it is just baggage from the past. I understand that, they did not commit those atrocities. I think people from around the world united in the idea that we would not let it happen again, we would not allow a lunatic spouting vile garbage to anger and incite people to rise to power...and yet here we are again walking that line. The courts struggle to enforce a gag order to prevent Trump from lying about judges and prosecutors and court staff, doing all he can to put their lives in danger. Exposing the soft underbelly of democracy, that we must all want to preserve and protect to keep it and if we don't...well...a Trump will try to slice that soft underbelly open and we will watch the blood and entrails of another democracy spill out all over the soil of what was once a great land and nobody will be safe.

I can't imagine this is what a Pat or Marc would want.
