There are certain things that really concern me about our current culture. For one, the MAGA crowd (just like behavioral scientists have pointed out) is one that no matter how many facts they are confronted with, their beliefs are only made that much stronger. Researchers have found that when it comes to the beliefs of people it is not unusual for facts contrary to their beliefs to actually strengthen their resolve in their erroneous beliefs. And to me, if you look at the MAGA crowd this specifically describes them and Trump. And this is proven by their continued devotion to Trump regardless of his dismal behavior.
If all factual things about this man were listed in a column and compared to the things in another column about how Trump portrays himself to be and the things he promised to do, practically none would match.
I mean, just today Trump lost a motion in court regarding his sexual abuse case when he argued he was a "persecuted Christian." Trump is NO legitimate Christian - his behavior proves that. But to his followers, he is, and simply because he said he is one (even though I am not religious at all, Trump has exhibited not one trait of a respectable Christian).
Next, we have a corrupt US Supreme Court that is continuing to settle cases based on practically no such legitimate way. The right wing of it continually ignores precedents and is truly an activist wing that conservatives for decades have bitched about.
Next, of US elections for quite some time have recorded more Democratic votes than Republican ones, but here we are with a Republican House and barely a majority Democratic Senate due to gerrymandering. This country is actually being controlled by a minority number of voters and it appears this is only going to get worse in the future.
Lastly, there is American ignorance that is growing more and more every day, and how this is happening at a time when massive amounts of factual information are right at our fingertips is beyond me.
Frankly, as citizens, our government and especially our elected officials are failing us and it scares the hell out of me. And this ongoing political habit of excusing horrible behavior by followers simply based upon the letter R or D before one's name is even worse. When it comes to clearly right and wrong things, dealing with the wrong should be quite easy but we are clearly seeing one political party, far, far more than the other, exceedingly supportive of such a thing so long as it allows them to win elections.
Sadly, I don't think losing elections is going to force these people to change. I mean, look at the abortion issue. It is clear that the subject of abortion was good for Democrats in the last election, but what is the right doing? Becoming even more radical on an issue that they must know is costing them elections. So, that is why I have little faith in lost elections as a way to make good change. What I think will happen is when it comes to winning elections, Republicans are going go even further by means such as corrupt legislation, corrupt courts, or to dive even deeper into declaring elections are being stolen rather than changing or adapting.
