The guy I saw talking about this is one of those Youtube people that I can't recall the name of that didn't appear to be one of those ranting lunatics.
He pointed out that of the 1 million Repub uptick, the Dems had a 600 k gain as well, so their net gain was only 400k. He also pointed out that a full accounting of these numbers did not fully explain how many of these new voters came from Red states.
But two other things that I think are going on include Never Trump voters coming back to the Repub party and other voters that find themselves more and more entrenched in a tribal aspect of American society. What I mean by the tribal aspect is I believe there is an emerging and growing phenomenon in the American voter where race and one's perceived current and future standing in American society is going to be a huge determining factor in near future (if it is not here yet) voter trends.
What I'm getting at is I believe in many white voters there is a perceived threat of what the future lies for them and their own race is going to play a larger part in their voting decisions over their personal ideology.
With outlets like FoxNews pushing themes like "white replacement theory," it is scaring the bejesus out of white voters which may cause them to lean toward voting for Republicans more and more.
So, I think that is another bloc of these *new* Republican voters - the white disaffected voter fearing the loss of their power and standing.
On top of this, over the past few years, I have heard over and over again from life-long Democrats how they feel the Democratic Party has left them behind and does not include them anymore. And these people include life-long union members and all sorts of other blue-collar workers.
