I don't disagree with you, EEE, and as you know, I detest much of what is spewed by the right wing media. That being said, I do think there is a false narrative held by many on the left, and it's a narrative that even mainstream media has chosen to disregard, and that is the statistics related to the number of citizens killed by the police. For the last five years or so, about 1000 citizens are killed by the police each year. About 50% of them are white, 25% are black, and 25% are others. And of course, some of these killings would be entirely justified for a variety of reasons. I think there is a misperception that far more black Americans are being murdered by the police. Yes, black Americans are being killed disproportionately, but, sadly, they have far more encounters with the police as policing is more intensive in poor neighborhoods. And of course, most killing is done by member of one's own racial group. What I've just written would truly have me labelled a racist by my some of my fellow liberals. And anyone here who knows me knows I reliably tick the liberal box when it comes to politics. I really think the public needs to hear and understand statistics. And yes, this is such an emotionally charged and very complicated issue. I get it.  My niece is African-American as my sister-in-law is from Uganda. If she were my nephew, my fears for that child would be off the charts. I honestly think we need the president, or vice-president, to sit down with America and use some charts so we can at least have a shared narrative. This would be a sustained conversation that is fact-based.  I can hear the naysayers and perhaps they are right.
