I got so lucky when The Wire was first broadcast because HBO had a page of the character's faces and names.

I got my Dad hooked on it and was able to print out that HBO page for him because the creators make you learn the names of people as you watch it. So at first, you'll be scratching your head, "who was "Wee-bay and Stringer Bell again?"
Oh, to see The Wire again for the first time. The opening scene, as in so many other parts, is just brilliant in its simplicity and profundity at both the same time and is such a precursor to the quality of the show.
