Such a podcast would be so difficult for me. What I hate about the topic of criminal justice is that it is such a treacherous road to travel simply because it is so easily derailed by other things that prevent true discussions from getting anywhere except into arguments and accusations of all sorts of things.
Egos, beliefs, inner demands to be right, ignorance and arrogance hamper the many things that need to be discussed, but for that to happen I think one would need to have a small group of very, very intelligent and sincere people that would allow honest back and forth with no judgments or accusations. And I think so many of those with brilliant minds (I'm not claiming to be one of those in any form whatsoever) avoid these conversations because they know the risks of deep diving into complex, controversial subjects.
But the policing field can be so very interesting. One of the best detectives I have ever known when it came to black gang killings is/was a white hillbilly from a rural county. Man, he can talk to ALL people - from high brows to low brows to whites, blacks, and all others. One other best detective was a devout Roman Catholic and both of these men had one thing in common - they could talk to people.
Want to know the worst one? It was one of those clods that tried brawn over brain and ended up chasing a murder suspect right into demanding an attorney - not once, but twice by his idiotic threats and Neanderthal behavior just before he was about to confess - (the first time he had been talked into continuing his talks without an attorney, but then the moron jumped back into the interrogation) - the confession wasn't coming fast enough. The murder, the killing of a spouse and dumping her body in a field remains "unsolved."
