At one time, I was one of those complainers that complained about the lack of musical artist variety. Well, with caveats, the thought of a lack of the existence of a wide variety of musical artist variety is certainly untrue. If one knows where to look, wow. The variety of quality stuff is there and by the truckloads.
The true issue is that it is a lack of attention that goes along with music artist variety. I guess at the end of the day when it comes to exposure to musical variety, the Internet has been a great success. Still, it makes me sick to think of how many of these artists are missed when assholes in suits in offices are deciding which performer deserves the full-court press while others are ignored. And let's be honest - if people with the physical appearance of a Janis Joplin were trying to make it today, forget it.
The most depressing thing about music artists and the variety out there is that the taste of those that provide the most attention to the artists in the public arena is pure shit and comes down to, of course, the bottom line - making a buck.
After using Spotify and other streaming services, I am astounded to the availability of so many artists that are falling under the radar. And what is even more distressing is when I listen to one of these artists and pop over to YouTube to see if there is a video, how many of these videos have so few views (there are some that do have a massive, loyal following - like those of us here at the DBIS).
For years it has always baffled me why the big, true music artists have never banded together and formed an artistic music label or platform to distribute truly good, crafted music. And what is even more surprising is that in today's technological world, one would think that would be much easier to do today than in the past.
And don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to slam someone's musical taste - I'm sure I enjoy stuff that others think is pure shit (but at the same time, sonically, check out some of the cookie-cutter-computer made junk at https://www.indievisionmusic.com/ to see how much people are relying upon obvious computer/technology systems to make crap).
Thoughts?
