Yes, it is a very hard thing to change how we live and how we think about
life.
I mean it is sort of the same as dealing with an addict. The change
has
to start with that person recognizing their issue and wanting to make a
change. Nothing, no words nor actions of others tend to be what makes the
difference. It typically is the person deciding "Hey, I want to do
something about this."
So, when you talk about the emptiness and the void in our lives that
we
are trying to fill...well...we create our own void and we play a part in
how we fill it.
I do think we live in a country where we are constantly assaulted by
pitchmen and hucksters and we have given in to them. They know about the
void and they know how to sell us things to fill it. We are so enamored
with...or at least a percentage of the population is so enamored
with...con men that we elected one president.
Let's face it, after years of advertisements telling us they can make
our
shirts and teeth whiter, our sex lives better by driving their car or
drinking their booze, or that we will be smiling happy people surrounded
by smiling happy people if we just ask our doctor for their prescription
drug...well...we seem sort of more accepting of bullshit than ever...or
at least some of us do.
I always figured we would evolve, you know, because that's what tends
to
happen and we would develop better bullshit detectors and instincts so
our species would survive.
One thing that Trump has shown me is more people than I expected are
begging to be lied to and fooled. I mean they eat up this guy's crap like
it is a gourmet meal at a 5 star restaurant. They want to be lied
to...like they are begging somebody to just tell them what they want to
hear whether it is nonsense or not.
