So, I already posted a link to this state of education map of the United
States in another post I made but really it applies directly to what you
are saying and backs you up 100%, Peter.

Clink on any state and you will get their public education report card.
Scroll down to the part of the report card where it grades "Spending" and
basically what we have is a dead giveaway to how important education is
in that state. Our little godless Northeastern portion of the country
spends on education, considers it highly important, and no surprise also
happens to be the least religious and the most progressive section of the
United States.
At the same time states like Alabama, Mississippi, or pick your
Southern
state spend little on education but deliver a whopping dose of religion
to their populations.
Essentially, and I know this is going to offend some people, but what
that seems to correlate is that living in certain sections of the US is a
lot like living in a country run by the Taliban. We are seeing a lot of
lunacy and hostility from these states and no surprise Trump describes
visiting them as a "love fest."
At the same time we have this year's crop of Republicans, Trump loves
yelling this, saying that if elected they will "eliminate the Department
of Education."
I wonder why they would like to do that? Could it be that when we
look at
that education report card map I linked to above that all the states that
vote for Republicans are states that have lousy educational systems,
won't spend on education, and of course have a poorly educated
population as a result? Are Republicans looking at the map and saying
"Hey, forget
all this stuff about getting the black vote or the Hispanic vote...what
we need are more dummies!"
I don't want paint people that vote Republican as idiots, I know a
lot of
bright Republicans...but I live in the Northeast...but with Trump going
full blown idiot on the campaign trail, promising to "eliminate the
Department of Education" (I heard him shout at one point he would do this
on his first day in office) it sure as hell seems like his solution to
"make America great again" is to make sure they are less educated.
The path to a healthier, happier, brighter, better functioning United
States starts with providing better education and better healthcare for
all. You can't have a country that can compete in the world marketplace
and be a shining example of what a Democracy can be if your population is
stupid and infirm.
